Description: The main entrance to Krak des Chevaliers was built in the late Crusader period. The Arabic inscription above it commemorates the capture and restoration of the castle in the 13th century by the Mamluke sultan Baibar. At the time, the entrance was reached by a drawbridge which no longer exists. A few steps now lead to the main entrance which contains the ticket office for admission. Past the entrance is a long vaulted ramp that leads to the main areas of the castle.
